Until a couple of years ago, every Election Day the school would be closed so that people could come in and vote in the hall. It was a governor who said “Why do we have to close the entire school so that votes can use one room?” The answer was “Child protection. There must be a secure fence between the general public and the children.”
It was another governor who found that there was nothing to stop us from opening the back gates to allow voters to enter that way, and then to use the Old Nursery building, which is securely fenced off from the rest of the site.
Sorry kids, it’s the governors you have to blame for no longer getting that extra day off in May.
